Date Tue, 17 Apr 2018 05:19:26 -0700

Postdoctoral Position at the University of California, Davis in Aerosol Chemistry-Cloud-Climate Connections

Description: A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Davis working with Prof. Chris Cappa on a project within the NSF Center for Aerosol Impacts on Chemistry of the Environment (CAICE; The position will focus on developing fundamental insights into the role that chemical complexity plays—and especially the role of organic compounds—in dictating the growth of aerosol particles into cloud droplets. The position will allow for developing expertise in a variety of experimental methods, including a unique cloud-droplet growth chamber (the CFSTGC), and will aim to make strong links between experiment and theory. The work is motivated by processes occurring in the marine environment, but has broad applicability to atmospheric processes in general. An example of recent work from our group can be found at As part of CAICE, the position will allow access to resources and provide numerous opportunities for collaboration, mentorship and engagement across the Center.

Requirements: The position requires a Ph.D. in environmental engineering, physical chemistry, atmospheric science or a related field. Strong candidates will have previous experimental experience and demonstrate an ability to think creatively about problems both as an individual and as part of a diverse, collaborative environment.

Applying: Interested applicants should send (i) a CV, including names of at least two and ideally three references, (ii) a letter of interest, and (iii) up to two representative publications or works in progress via e-mail to Chris Cappa ( Please use the subject line “Postdoc at UCD-CAICE.” Applications will be reviewed starting late-April 2018, continuing until the position is filled.

The initial appointment is for a period of 1 year, with an expectation of continuation for another year with satisfactory performance. The level of the appointment and associated salary is commensurate with experience and determined by the University of California salary scale.

UC Davis is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer, and recognizes the necessity of support for efforts to integrate work, family and other work-life considerations.
