There is an opening for a PhD student at the Physical Oceanography Laboratory at the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Split, Croatia (www.izor.hr). The position is funded by Croatian Science Foundation. We are looking for a motivated young scientist from the field of geosciences (possibly mathematics or computer sciences) to work on the research of high-frequency sea level oscillations, with a following to-do list:

1.      Acquisition and quality check of available 1-min sea level data (mostly coming from the IOC Sea Level Monitoring Station Facility at http://www.ioc-sealevelmonitoring.org/),

2. Extraction, statistics and contribution of high-frequency sea level oscillations to overall sea levels,

3. Extreme events and their connection to synoptic processes,

4. Regional high-frequency sea level studies.

The position will include the engagement in doctoral study of geophysics/oceanography at the University of Zagreb, Croatia.

The candidate will join one of the leading world groups when it comes to research of high frequency sea level oscillations (with emphasis on meteotsunamis). Group members also have strong background in ocean modelling, data analyses, climate studies, and the Mediterranean and the Adriatic oceanography.

Tentative starting date is 1 September 2018.

Duration of the position is 4 years.

Pre-applications with CV and motivation letter should be send to Ivica Vilibic (vilibic@izor.hr). Formal procedure (public call lasting for 30 days) will be initiated in May.
