Dear all

Below is the official advertisement. We are looking for a PhD student to deal with multiple datasets of aerosol mass spectrometers (ACSM) and aethalometers. Statistical methods (SoFi) should be further developed to work towards real-time source apportionment. The main focus will be on data analysis but there will also be some part of taking care of at least one instrument run by our lab. So we are looking for somebody with a strong mathematical, programming background with high interest in statistics and environmental application.

Please apply through the link given below in the advertisement.

Andre Prevot

The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of matter and materials, energy and environment and human health. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether PSI employs 2100 people.

For the Gasphase and Aerosol Chemistry Group we are looking for a

PhD Student

Source identification of atmospheric aerosols

Your tasks

  • Analysis of data from aerosol chemical speciation monitors and aethalometers to quantify the contributions of different sources to the atmospheric aerosol at different places
  • Further development of multilinear engine applications in our source finder tool for further optimization of its source apportionment capabilities
  • Interaction with scientists from other groups involved in this European Project

In collaboration with the University of Bern:

  • Sample preparation and measurement of the carbon-14 content in aerosol filter samples at the University of Bern

Your profile

  • Master degree in physics, chemistry, environmental science or similar
  • Knowledge in statistics and experience in programming
  • Excellent communication skills in English

We offer

Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from a systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture.
