Dear Met-community,

the German energy company EnBW AG is seeking a meteorological analyst in the context of energy trading at the earliest possible date. (Location: Karlsruhe, Germany)
The EnBW “Energy Economics – Analysis & Evaluation” division supports our energy trading desk with energy-economical analyses of the European power and commodity markets. Regarding this task, the ongoing energy revolution continuously adds weight to weather-related impacts and their proper consideration in terms of opportunities and risk.
We are looking for a personality who backs our team of meteorologists in analyzing all weather-related factors of the European energy markets with respects to our trading and portfolio-management activities.


In detail your key responsibilities comprise

  • Track, assess and evaluate ongoing weather trends and forecasts (short and long-term) to provide operative support for our energy traders and market analysts
  • Provide analyses, statistics and time series analysis of all relevant weather-related energy market parameters like load (power/gas), hydro or wind/solar energy production
  • Refinement and processing of external weather data regarding the energy sector needs
  • Continued development of methods and models in close contact with modelling experts
  • Communication and contact to external weather services and occasional participation in energy meteorology research projects.

 

Your profile

  • University degree in meteorology, hydrology, physics or in a related field. In the case of meteorological skills, a degree in mathematics, engineering, economics or IT may apply. PhD or equivalent preferable
  • Strong competence in meteorological data analysis as well as in statistical and stochastic techniques
  • Distinctive analytical and methodical skills. Good knowledge in programming languages, in the ideal case Matlab, Python, R or MS VBA
  • Ideally experience in the field of weather modelling / reanalysis and forecasting of renewable energy or load. Knowledge in the field of energy markets / energy trading, hydrology or synoptic meteorology is an advantage
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Sense of initiative, curiosity and creativity
  • Ability to work in a self-employed, well-structured and output-oriented way
  • Pleasure of working in an interdisciplinary team
  • Strong interest in personal and professional development
