About the Organisation

The Authority is a Crown entity, responsible for the safety and security of New Zealand’s civil aviation system. The Authority has two business arms – the regulatory arm, which is responsible for the safety oversight of the civil aviation system, and the security arm (the Aviation Security Service) which provides aviation security services at airports across New Zealand.

About the Role

The purpose of this role is provide leadership and technical expertise in the planning, organising, and managing of the CAA’s meteorological system obligations and responsibilities in domestic and international aviation.

Particular responsibilities include assisting in;

  • the oversight of aviation meteorological services in New Zealand,
  • managing New Zealand’s Annex 3 responsibilities under the Chicago Convention,
  • Collaboration and co-ordination of aviation meteorology matters with other States, international forums, and representative bodies,
  • the provision of expert advice to the aviation community, CAA operations, the Director of Civil Aviation, and the Secretary for Transport.

In addition to relevant qualifications, this role requires a solid track record and demonstrated leadership and expertise over the full range of aviation meteorological services, supported by a sound understanding of civil aviation, systems regulation, and modern business practices.
