   PhD Position (m/f)

The place of employment is Hamburg.

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, and in Teltow, near Berlin, conducts materials and coastal research. You can find more information at http://www.hzg.de.

The Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS), an institution of the HZG, is looking for a PhD position (m/f) to support the scientific cooperation with the University of Hamburg research group on Agricultural Economics and Resource Management within the research unit Sustainability and Global Change. The „Integrative Modelling Lab“ will work on the analysis of impacts of global change at the local and regional scale through the creation of integrative models. These models will include knowledge from different sources to support science-based decision making under the frame of „action-able science“. The position is limited to three years.

The tasks will be:
-        support of participatory processes between farmers, agricultural software developers, and scientists
-        integration of biophysical crop simulation models in farm decision software
-        research on system dynamics and implications for environmental policy making

We expect you to:
-        have a degree preferably in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Ecological Economics or similar background
-         have experience in participatory processes and stakeholder dialogues
-        have experience in quantitative assessments (statistics, crop modelling, or programming)
-        be highly motivated, proactive, self-reliant, assertive, with an excellent time-management
-        be able to work interdisciplinary connecting the work of different disciplines
-        be proficient in English and German

-        scientific work within the project following the needs of the project's document of action
-        collaboration with other GERICS’ departments
-        writing of scientific publications
-        support the visibility of the project and HICCS
-         support of the team work on the coupling of systems through system modeling approaches
-         support of the organisation of workshops and participatory processes for the team
 
We expect you to:
-        have a PhD preferably in Environmental Sciences, Geography, Ecological Economics or similar background
-        have experience in the use of System Dynamic Modelling
-        have experience in modelling and programming
-         have experience in participatory processes and stakeholder dialogues
-        have scientific publication in the intersection of science and use of science
-        be highly motivated, proactive, self-reliant, assertive, with an excellent time-management
-        be able to work interdisciplinary connecting the work of different disciplines
-        be proficient in English and German
