Graduate school opportunity in ocean modelling at Dal Oceanography
We are looking for a motivated graduate student interested in numerical ocean and icea modelling. The student project will develop a physical ocean-ice model for coastal Nunatsiavut (northern Canada). The model will be used to hindcast historical marine conditions and examine inter-annual variability in temperature, ocean currents, and sea ice – with a focus on climate change and extreme events. The model may be expanded to include simulations of ocean biogeochemistry (nutrients, oxygen, plankton). These simulations will allow us to better understand historical marine climate variations in the region including predictability and physical drivers, inform inter-disciplinary research on ecosystem indicators in coastal Nunatsiavut, and provide the capability to downscale future climate change projections to the coast.
Familiarity with Unix, Matlab/Python and supercomputing systems would be a plus, but aren't required. The project is supervised by Eric Oliver (ecjoliver.weebly.com). If interested please e-mail Eric (firstname.lastname@example.org) and include your transcripts.
