Description :

In the framework of a collaboration with Environment and Climate Change Canada, a position is opened for a postdoctoral fellow in data assimilation in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). The scholarship is funded for a duration of up to three years.
The candidate will lead the integration of new observations in the variational data assimilation system of the research group on remote sensing at UQAM. This project focuses on the evaluation of the impact on the quality of analyses and numerical weather forecasts of observations from diverse ground-based and satellite instruments, particularly Doppler wind lidars, radars and radiometers. A particular attention will be paid to measurements from instruments deployed on the Iqaluit and Eureka sites in the Canadian Arctic.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in atmospheric science or other relevant discipline from a recognized university. Experience in data assimilation, remote sensing, scientific programming or in research projects in atmospheric science would be an asset.  Knowledge is also requested of programming languages Fortran, Python, and Unix Shell applied to data assimilation, remote sensing or completion of research projects in atmospheric science.
