The Department of Geography, Planning and Environment at East Carolina University invites applications for graduate research assistantships to pursue a Master of Science degree in Geography. The assistantships are funded by a NSF-supported project related to observations and modeling of regional climate variability in the southeastern United States that draws on radar-based precipitation datasets and the Weather Research Forecast (WRF) model.

An undergraduate degree in atmospheric science or a related field, as well as programming and GIS experience, are desirable.

East Carolina University is located in Greenville, North Carolina, USA, the regional center of the eastern North Carolina coastal plain. Greenville is located along the headwaters of the Tar-Pamlico estuary, the gateway to the Outer Banks coastal barrier islands. A system of greenways, regional and state parks provide access to this unique ecosystem by trail or kayak.
