The Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change is looking for a
(Senior) Scientist
(40 hours a week; expected employment for the period of 6 years with an
objective agreement; position to be filled as of January 1st 2018 )
Career objective: Permanent employment as Senior -.

Your duties
•    Management of the European Occultation Processing and Analysis
Center for Cal/Val and Climate (EOPAC)
•    Senior scientific work in the Atmospheric Remote Sensing and
Climate System Research Group on satellite occultation methods and
scientific software systems for climate research
•    Management and collaboration in R&D projects on atmospheric remote
sensing and climate (e.g., ESA, EUMETSAT, FFG projects)
•    Collaboration and co-authorship in publishing scientific journal
articles and reports
•    Advice and senior support in the development of software for the
whole research group

Your profile
•    PhD in Physics, Geophysics, Meteorology or any other comparable field
•    Proven knowledge in the area of satellite remote sensing for
atmosphere and climate and
with relevant modeling and data analysis as well as experience in
     satellite occultation methods and with collaboration and
co-authorship in publishing scientific journal articles and reports
•    Experience in analysis, planning, realization, and maintenance of
scientific software solutions for big data handling and modeling systems
•    Experience in scientific programming with Fortran95/2003, C/C++,
with scripting languages (Python, Perl, shell-programming),
in mixed-language programming as well as with proceduraland
object-oriented design
•    Experience in working within the common operation systems
Unix/Linux and Windows
•    Fluent in spoken and written English
•    Practical experience in team-leading and with collaborations within
international R&D project teams.
•    Capacity for teamwork, organizational skills, high motivation, and
ability to communicate
•    Self-reliant work style and organization, Curiosity for innovative
goals, and quality awareness
•    Interest for solving complex tasks and to accept responsibility as
team leader
•    Competence in leadership and motivation of teams, and pleasure in
working in an internationally oriented environment

Our offer
Classification
Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement): B1

Minimum salary
The minimum salary as stated in the collective agreement and according
to the classification scheme is EUR 3626.60 gross/month. This minimum
salary may be higher due to previous employment periods eligible for
inclusion and other earnings and remunerations.
