The Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS), a scientific organizational entity of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Centre for Materials and Coastal Research, invites applications for a Programme Manager (m/f). The position is initially limited to 24 months.

She/he will support the scientific and administrative activities of the Earth League. The Earth League is an international, interdisciplinary association of prominent scientists from leading research institutions. It aims at fostering science related to the Earth system and climate change, such as research in the fields of climate modelling, socioeconomics, biodiversity, and resilience. The Earth League strives to strengthen development and innovation in order to promote the transformation of societies towards sustainability and adaptation to climate change.

Activities of the Earth League include, among others, scientific publications that highlight issues related to the global challenge of climate change and with a solution oriented view. The Earth League runs a Postdoc programme which supports outstanding young scientists as ‘Earth Docs’ who have the opportunity to pursue research endeavours at the forefront of science.

As host of the Earth League secretariat, GERICS is looking for an inspired and inspiring person who is eager to support the Earth League members in their scientific and administrative activities, and to coordinate the Earth Docs’ work and progress.

-        to support the members of the Earth League in identifying and sharpening ideas that could become Earth League scientific publications or further Earth League outreach activities
-        the management of the realisation of such ideas, both through coordination of the process and writing
-        to coordinate the collaboration and to ensure the communication between the Earth League members, the Earth League secretariat at GERICS,  and the Earth League director at the Stockholm Resilience Centre
-        the coordination of yearly meetings and scientific outputs
-        to help to further develop the Earth League’s profile

Skills and experiences:
-        a relevant scientific background and a PhD, preferably in Earth System Science, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Socio-Economics, or a similar field
-        experience in writing and publishing scientific papers
-        at least 5 years of experience in management of projects and in the coordination of scientific work
-        proficiency in English is a requirement
-        transdisciplinary experience is an asset
-        she/he should be highly motivated, proactive, self-reliant, assertive, and possess excellent time management
-        she/he should be able to delve into complex relations, as well as to connect different schools of thought
-        team worker qualities with good interpersonal skills
-        interest in transferring knowledge to society
-        experience in fundraising is an asset
