Based in New Plymouth and Raglan (New Zealand) our international team works on projects and data analysis world-wide. A medium-sized company, MetOcean Solutions occupies several niche consultancy and service roles and has a rapidly growing forecast and hindcast sector. We are currently seeking a talented Hydrodynamic Data Assimilation Modeller to join our team.

We are seeking a self-starter to work in our multi-disciplinary R&D environment. Your role will be to lead the development, implementation and application of advanced methods for data assimilation in marine hydrodynamic models to support various projects undertaken by MetOcean Solutions. The role also includes participation in the MetOcean Solutions operational ocean forecasting team, with particular focus on hydrodynamic modelling, ocean prediction and data analysis.

Qualifications:Â PhD and documented research experience in hydrodynamic modelling, preferably in a coastal application.
To apply you must have the following skills and experience:
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â - Outstanding expertise with hydrodynamic models (preferably ROMS).
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â - Experience in Data Assimilation techniques (preferably variational methods, e.g. 3D-Var/4D-Var)
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â - Thorough understanding of ocean circulation dynamics.
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â - Proficiency working with and organising large geophysical datasets.
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â - Excellent programming ability, including proficiency in Fortran, Matlab or Python, and NetCDF.
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â - Experience working in a Linux environment.
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â - Strong technical and scientific writing skills in English, with the ability to communicate complex science to a range of audiences.
Experience with the following would be beneficial, but not essential:
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â - Involvement in an operational forecasting environment.
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â - Working in a remote High Performance Compute environment.
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â - Experience with wave or unstructured grid modelling
Â·Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â - Knowledge of machine learning techniques
