Dear reader,

I would like to inform you about a vacant Professorship in Bochum (please see attachments as well):

Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from diversity and proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and disciplines.

The Department of Geography in the Faculty of Geosciences at the Ruhr-University Bochum invites applications for the position of a Professor (W2) in

Urban Climatology

to start on 01 April, 2018. The University is searching for a faculty member with international visibility, excellent research achievements, broad teaching experience, and a proven ability to apply independently for research funds.

The new professor is expected to contribute significantly to the ongoing process of focussing research activities in the field “Transformation  of Metropolitan Spaces”, which is the core area of interdisciplinary research at the Department of Geography. This includes active participation in the UAR (University Alliance Ruhr) field of competence “Metropolitan Research”. Therefore it is expected that the candidate ideally has the following research focus:

-          meso- and microscale atmospheric processes in cities

-          measurement and modelling of air pollution

-          climate change and climatic adaptation in urban spaces/areas

The position includes the direction and coordination of the climatological working group. Teaching has to be performed within the study programs of Geography (B.A., B.Sc. and M.Sc.) and in the international double degree program “Transformation of Urban Landscapes” (M.Sc.). This includes field trips as well.

It is expected that a successful candidate holds an outstanding PhD in the field of urban or regional climatology. Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic achievement (e.g. Habilitation) or significant post-doctoral research contributions and teaching experience are as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB and the department of Geography.

Ruhr-Universität Bochum is an equal opportunity employer. Complete applications (including cover letter/motivation letter, CV, teaching experience, list of publications as well as copies of 2 – 3 exemplary publications, certificates/diplomas, record of external funding, and research and teaching) should be sent in electronic form (PDF document) to Dean of the Faculty of Geosciences, Prof. Dr. Harald Zepp (e-mail: geodekanat@rub.de), no later than 30 September 2017.
