My team in the UK Department for Transport’s Office for Science has two new permanent posts and I’m looking for people with a strong science background and some wider experience in Government, academia, consultancy or elsewhere. The starting salary for people new to the civil service is £50,699. The closing date is July 26th, about two weeks from today.

The first post is to help deliver the Future of Mobility, the Governments foresight project into the future transport needs of the UK:

The second post is to help setup and deliver a new UK Transport Research and Innovation Board, to coordinate the UK’s major research organisation on major transport topics:

Successful applicants will also provide support on varied topics such as air pollution, climate change, data science, artificial intelligence or intelligent infrastructure, so curiosity and wide ranging science, engineering and technology interests are essential.

By applying for one post, you’ll also be considered if you indicate an interest in both. Candidates must be UK or EU nationals and we have decided to advertise these posts publicly from the outset to encourage wider applications.

For more information please contact me by email on or by calling 07766 77 56 24 between 4-6pm, or Siobhan Campbell on

Best wishes,

Dr Iarla Kilbane-Dawe
