Two research engineer / PDRA positions at IPSL on climate data analysis and compression Institut Pierre Simon Laplace (IPSL http://www.ipsl.fr/en/Organisation/About-IPSL) is looking for two research engineers / post-doctoral research assistants to address the challenges posed by the massive amounts of data generated by upcoming high-resolution climate simulations at IPSL and elsewhere. The sheer volume of this data jeopardizes the feasibility of its production and scientific analysis, calling for strategies to reduce the volume of data while maintaining its scientific quality. In order to address this challenge, lossy compression of model output will be explored, with a focus on : position 1 : characterizing scientifically acceptable loss of raw information position 2 : identifying and optimizing lossy compression algorithmms that maintain the scientific quality of the data For both positions, familiarity with computing and programming (Unix/Linux, shell, C/Fortan, Python) is required. The ideal candidate should be able to work in English and in a collaborative environment. He/she communicates well in oral and written about his/her ideas, problems and results. For position 1, experience in analysis of climate simulations is a plus, as well as statistical skills. For position 2, experience/knowledge of data compression techniques is a plus. Send CV and cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com The positions will be filled as soon as possible.
