The University of Reading’s Department of Meteorology is recruiting a core 
scientist, whose work will focus on both the operational and scientific aspects 
of Earth Observation.  The post-holder will collaborate internationally with 
users and developers of Earth Observation data, both within the scientific 
community and within the wider climate services community.  The role will 
include working within the TAMSAT group and supporting emerging Copernicus and 
climate services (e.g.,
The post-holder will report to the Research Division Leader for Earth 
Observation and Space, Professor Chris Merchant, with day-to-day interaction 
with members of TAMSAT and other groups running and developing operational 
systems, as relevant.
This is a 5-year fixed term position.
You will have:

  *   PhD in a numerate discipline or equivalent professional experience
  *   Excellent scientific programming skills
  *   Appreciation of remote sensing methodologies and their application to 
meteorological problems
  *   Experience maintaining and developing large and complex datasets
  *   Willingness and availability to travel to Africa when required in 
connection with TAMSAT
