Postdoctoral Scholar on urban boundary layer and air pollution
General overview of the position:
Columbia University and Climate City SAS are looking for a postdoctoral scholar to work on urban and boundary layer pollution using tethered balloons in Manhattan and its impact on health. The candidate should have a strong background on the atmospheric boundary layer especially in an urban context.
Climate City is an innovating startup company which ambition is to become the first worldwide operator of urban climate observations, in particular using airborne platforms (UAVs and balloons). The company objective is to deploy a permanent service above the main megacities, allowing the decision makers and stake holders to anticipate and decide the best adaptation actions to put in place for a better resilience and protection of their assets. - Statistical analysis of historical data in frequency and time domains using state-of-the-art statistical software such as MTM/SVD, wavelets, hierarchical Bayesian models and other machine learning tools. The parameters to be analyzed are related to climate variability and change, pollution, allergens, GES…
- Preliminary analysis of short term time series related to the above parameters (such as i.e. Particle Matter)
- Ensure the proper implementation and operation of tethered balloons equipped with various types of instrumentation for pollution, thermodynamic, and surface observations.
- Possibly be involved with fine scale urban boundary layer modelling (data assimilation).
In permanent contact with scientists from Columbia university (CWC) and international people involved with Climate City company.
The candidate must be familiar with statistical technics, atmospheric physics, have some modelling expertise, and have some skills in observation methodologies, and climate applications.
The position will start in the Fall of 2017 and is for 18 months
