Two Research Fellowships are available at the European Space Agency for early career post-doctoral researchers. Research Fellowship on Satellite Data for Climate Research European Space Agency Climate Office Directorate of Earth Observation ECSAT, Harwell, UK Research Fellowship on Atmospheric Research European Space Agency Mission Science Division Directorate of Earth Observation ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Details of the positions and how to apply are here: <http://www.esa.int/About_Us/Careers_at_ESA/Research_Fellow_Opportunities> The Research Fellow Programme is open to nationals of the following states: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK, Slovenia as an Associate Member or Canada as a Cooperating State, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovakia as European Cooperating States (ECS). Research Fellowship on Satellite Data for Climate Research: The selected candidate could choose to be involved in various activities depending on their previous research experience. Suggested topics are: Participating in activities related to the use of Essential Climate Variable products of the Climate Change Initiative programme < http://cci.esa.int> such as climate research, geophysical data analysis, data validation/intercomparison, data visualisation or data assimilation. Developing activities common to a subset of climate projects, climate domains (Atmospheric, Land and Ocean) and their interfaces. Working to support cross cutting activities such as data harmonisation, product consistency assessment, uncertainty characterisation. A wide range of proposals are encouraged and the Climate Office can be reasonably flexible in what subjects can be covered. Research Fellowship on Atmospheric Research: The applicant can choose to be involved in one of two activities depending on the previous research experience: Ice Cloud Imager: The sub-mm wave Ice Cloud Imager, ICI, is currently being implemented as payload of the MetOp Second Generation series of polar-orbiting meteorological satellites. This Research Fellow opportunity aims at the assessment of observational data acquired through campaigns with the new ISMAR airborne instrument developed by ESA. Sentinel-4 Retrieval: This Research Fellow Opportunity aims at testing of breadboard retrieval algorithms. It is foreseen that synthetic satellite data, and possibly also real measurements data from airborne and satellite sensors will be used for this purpose. The activity might also cover the exploration of alternative retrieval approaches depending on the expertise and skills of the candidate. Contracts are for two years. ESA will provide: as of January 2017, the remuneration (or 'take-home pay') for a single expatriate Research Fellow will range from €3,000 to €3,800 per month depending on the location of the ESA Establishment. Deadline for applications: 25th April 2017.
