We are looking for a postdoctoral research associate to research the effects of
climate variation on crop yield and forest production across Africa. The work
is funded by two research projects. The first is the UK Space Agency funded
research project, Forests 2020. This is a large consortium project involving
partners from six tropical forest countries (Brazil, Mexico, Ghana, Kenya,
Indonesia and Colombia) with the aim of dramatically improving the uptake and
usefulness of satellite data products in these countries. The second is a Royal
Society challenge grant, with the aim to develop a soil moisture and crop yield
diagnostic system for sub-Saharan Africa.

This PRDA will focus on analysing and modelling the effects of climate and soil
moisture on crop and forest water use, photosynthesis and production.
Competitive candidates will have experience in hydrological and/or
biogeochemical modelling, model-data fusion, well developed numerical
analytical skills, and a proven capacity to publish scientific outputs. The
appointee will combine earth observations, field data and modelling to
determine the current and future states of tropical production and plant
growth, and their controlling processes. We have a well-developed model-data
fusion system that will be used to meet project objectives.

This post is full time, fixed term for 24 months and is available from 01 April
2017; or as soon as possible thereafter.
