There is a vacancy for a postdoctoral fellow position at the Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen, Norway within numerical modelling in meteorology. The position is for a period of 3 years and is funded by the University of Bergen and Norwegian Meteorological Institute
The position is part of an effort to develop a physically based spatio-temporal gridded downscaling of the national numerical weather prediction (NWP) forecast that is currently run on a grid of 2.5 x 2.5 km2. The postdoctoral fellow’s main responsibility will be to develop a computationally fast (in an operational environment) physics-based downscaling tool that is constrained by the national NWP analysis/ forecast. The novelty of the project is to explore and develop capabilities of utilising new, un-conventional (e.g. personal) observations. Special emphasis will be placed on improving the nowcasting skills of the current weather forecasts.
The application deadline is Feb. 1. For more details about the position, instructions on how to submit an application, and contact information, please see: https://www.jobbnorge.no/en/available-jobs/job/132763/postdoctoral-fellow-position-in-meteorology
