Scientific Programmer for Wind Farm Flow Model Development and Verification

Location: Bristol, United Kingdom (UK/EU/EEA citizen status or UK work permit required)

Employment type: Full time

Contract term: initially limited to 6 months.

 Job description:

ProPlanEn is an engineering consultancy which was founded in 2015 by Dr Wolfgang Schlez, who has been active for over 25 years in the wind energy industry.  ProPlanEn provides independent advice to clients engaged in wind energy projects around the world.  Our specialist areas are wind resource modelling, energy assessment, and project due diligence.  ProPlanEn also develops specialist software tools for the industry.

The UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK recently selected the WakeBlaster project, proposed by ProPlanEn Ltd in the Energy Catalyst funding competition, for a co-funding grant.  To support this exciting project we are recruiting a team of scientists and engineers.

We are looking for a researcher in the field of hydrodynamics, computational physics, numerical methods, meteorology, or related areas, for an initial period of 6 months, starting in January 2017 to develop model prototypes and verify them against data and develop new strategies to assess and improve the performance of wind farms.

 Qualifications:

The applicant should have an MSc degree in computer science, physics, applied mathematics, aerodynamic engineering, mechanical engineering, meteorology, or a related topic with a focus on programming.  The work requires very good knowledge of Matlab, plus knowledge of at least one compiled, high-level programming language, e.g. C++, or C#.

Knowledge of meteorological data processing, and parallel processing using CUDA or other hardware orientated programming languages is also beneficial.  The work will be benefitted by a researcher with a solid background in mathematics, fluid mechanics, and numerical approaches.  The work will be carried out within a multidisciplinary team of engineers, using agile software development methodologies.

The development will be carried out in close cooperation with future clients for the WakeBlaster product.  The working language is English, but given the international nature of the client base other languages are also advantageous.

See www.proplanen.com for further information. Application is by e-mail only.  Please send your brief CV to info@proplanen.com

Best Regards,

Wolfgang Schlez
