1-2 Researchers (SILAM-FMI)
Finnish Meteorological Institute, Atmospheric dispersion modelling group is
seeking qualified researchers to work in a team responsible for development
and application of SILAM global-to-mesoscale chemistry transport model
The work will include the SILAM model development, testing, evaluation and
application at various spatial and
temporal scales and all areas related to atmospheric composition and air
One of the key areas will be modelling of coarse biogenic aerosols (pollens,
spores), their production by the plants,
release into the air, atmospheric life cycle, and human health impact.
Development and application of data assimilation methods for the bioaerosols
using both in-situ and remote-sensing
observations will be one of the key aspects.

The work will start January 2017 or as soon as possible. The position(s) will
be located in Helsinki, Finland.
The employment period will be until December 2017 with possible prolongation
depending on the results of work
and research projects obtained by the group. Salary will be based on experience
and performance according to the FMI salary scale.

Candidates with a PhD or MSc degree, or equivalent in relevant fields
(atmospheric physics, applied mathematics and mathematical modelling) will be
considered. Furthermore, a successful candidate must meet the following
essential criteria:
- strong background in atmospheric sciences or applied mathematics
- strong programming skills, including FORTRAN and Python languages
- extensive knowledge of data analysis and computational physics
- strong team-working and communication skills
- written and spoken fluency in English, and willingness to work
internationally (including research visits abroad)
- positive attitude and passion for science!
Other desirable qualifications are
- practical experience in atmospheric modelling, data assimilation
- knowledge of atmospheric chemistry
- knowledge of and interest in biology

To apply, send a short application together with a CV, and a list of
publications to
  (cc: and by email titled
"Researcher/SILAM" at the latest
