A PDRA position is open at the University of Reading in the Meteorology Department on:

Aircraft routing during volcanic ash events
We invite applications for a PDRA to undertake exciting and innovative research on improving the routing of aircraft in volcanic ash contaminated airspace.   The PDRA will develop a methodology to calculate along-flight volcanic ash dosage which combines volcanic ash distributions with flight optimum-routing software.  They will collaborate with industrial partners from the aviation industry and work with a web designer to develop a proof-of-concept on-line volcanic ash dosage calculation tool. Collaboration: The PDRA will report to Dr Helen Dacre, and will be supported by regular guidance and contributions from Prof Keith Shine and Dr Emma Irvine. They will also collaborate closely with the project partners, the Civil Aviation Industry and British Airways.

PDRA profile: Applicants should have a PhD in atmospheric science, physics or mathematics (or a closely related subject), expect shortly to obtain this or equivalent research experience; experience in computer programing and data analysis and a willingness to interact with the industrial partners.

Funding particulars: This is a 12-month position at Grade 6 (29,301 - 38,183 per annum) funded by the NERC Environmental Risks to Infrastructure Innovation Programme.
