The Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (IPF) and the Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research (IMK) at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) are offering a limited position

PhD Position in Remote Sensing of Air Pollution Patterns

This PhD scholarship is part of the Graduate School for Climate and Environment GRACE. The main goal of the joint research project RePAQ – Regional Patterns of Air Quality – is to evaluate temporal and spatial patterns of urban air quality, and their geophysical determinants. Remote sensing, using both satellite-based and ground-based instrumentation will be employed to understand how satellite-retrieved atmospheric aerosol loading can be used to approximate street-level air pollution; to analyse high-pollution events in selected cities in multiple dimensions; and to assess the urban pollution footprint relative to periodic and shifting changes in prevalent surfaces, in particular vegetation.

The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in all, and good knowledge of at least one of the following: remote sensing, urban climate, statistical methods. She/he should be a team player, have good communication skills and take on responsibility in an international and interdisciplinary research team. The position can be filled immediately.

KIT is pursuing a gender-equality policy. Women are particularly encouraged to apply. If qualified, handicapped applicants will be preferred.

Please send your complete application until 3rd October 2016, which should include 1) a letter of motivation, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) complete course grades and transcripts and 4) contact details of at least two referees, as one pdf file by email to Jan Cermak, jan.cermak@kit.edu.

For additional information on the position, please directly contact Prof. Dr. Jan Cermak, email: jan.cermak@kit.edu.
