Postdoctoral researcher in atmospheric chemistry transport modelling @ VU Amsterdam
The postdoctoral researcher will run a global or regional atmospheric chemistry transport model to study the impact of fire emissions on the atmosphere. An important component of the work will be to compare estimated atmospheric abundances of trace gases and aerosols over biomass burning regions with satellite retrievals of the same species to provide atmospheric constraints on bottom-up emissions estimates. The researcher is expected to report in the peer-reviewed literature, assist in annual fieldwork and team up with the earth system modeler in the team to better understand the climate impact of biomass burning.
• PhD in atmospheric sciences with at least 2 papers about atmospheric trace gas and/or aerosol dynamics published in respected journals;
• experienced in independently setting up, running, and modifying atmospheric models;
• excellent ability to communicate in both written and spoken English;
• strong scientific motivation, and interest in climate change issues as well as Earth system science;
• good social skills;
