The Department of Geography in the College of Earth, Ocean, and
Environment invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor
beginning September 2017. The Department seeks a scholar who shows
exceptional promise as an intellectual leader to advance research in the
field of Geographic Information Science and ideally will complement
and enhance the existing research areas of the department and college.

The Geography Department at the University of Delaware is a nationally
and internationally recognized department that offers undergraduate
degrees in Geography, Environmental Science and Environmental Studies,
Meteorology and Climatology, Masters degrees in Geography, Ph.D. degrees
in Geography and Climatology, and a graduate-level certificate program
in Geographic Information Science. Our research and teaching interact
extensively with programs across campus and beyond.

Our Department is strengthened by a new PhD degree, interactions with
colleagues in the department's well-established climatology and physical
geography programs, new synergies within human geography program, and
connections to units on campus including the Environmental Humanities
Working Group, Area Studies Programs, the Water Science and Policy
Graduate Program, the Delaware Environmental Institute, and the Disaster
Research Center.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an ambitious GIS
research program with a high level of publication and external support,
teach courses in GIS at the undergraduate and graduate level, mentor
students in our degree programs, and offer service to the department,
college, university, profession and community. A Ph.D. in Geography or a
closely related discipline is required at the time of appointment.

Further information about our department and programs may be found at
<http://www.udel.edu/Geography>.

Recognized by the Chronicle of Higher Education as one of America’s best
universities to work for in 2012, the University of Delaware is located
midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore, and is a Sea Grant, Space
Grant, and Land Grant institution.
