The Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht invites applications for a

Scientist (m/f)
code-no. 2016/KS 2
starting as soon as possible as part of the BMWi funded research project open_FRED:
“Erstellung von Einspeisezeitreihen der fluktuierenden erneuerbaren Energien auf Basis einer offenen Datenbank”.
The position is limited to two years.

Within the project the contribution of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht will be the production of an atmospheric data set
meeting all the requirements by renewable energy system models. Therefore adaptations of the model code as well as
the development of strategies to evaluate the model results are part of the project.
Areas of responsibilities:
-        literature research with respect to the demand of energy system modelling
-        model source code adaptations of the COSMO-CLM
-        product-based analysis of high resolution wind, radiation and runoff data
-        finding licence models to realize the open source demand of the project
-        organization of workshops
-        compile scientific publications of the findings of the different areas in related international peer-reviewed research journals

Profile of qualifications:
-        an university degree in natural sciences or earth science is essential, a Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline would be beneficial
-        very good knowledge in programming in FORTRAN, Ruby or C and scripting (e.g. R or python) at Unix platforms
-        research experience in the field of regional atmospheric modelling
-        experience in communicating scientific results to scientists
-        excellent written and oral communication skills in English, as well as a record of peer reviewed publications in order to
demonstrate the ability to publish work in scientific literature
-        willingness to work in an international and interdisciplinary team at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Germany
-        interest on thematic areas related to renewable energy system modelling
