The Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR) is one of the leading institutes in the field of marine sciences. The research unit Maritime Meteorology of the research division Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics is offering a Postdoctoral Position in the newly founded working group Ocean-Atmosphere Chemistry-Climate Interactions.

Job Description:
Oceanic very short-lived Halocarbons (VSLH) can have multisided impacts on atmospheric chemistry and physics. The postdoctoral position will focus on modelling the atmospheric fate of anthropogenic VSLH through Lagrangian transport simulations including detailed microphysical and chemical processes. The project will include model development and will aim to simulate and analyse the impact of anthropogenic VSLH emissions on local tropospheric OH concentrations and ozone chemistry.

Qualifications:
·         PhD in natural sciences, e.g. Meteorology, Physics
·         Knowledge of the dynamics and chemistry of the atmosphere and the interaction with the ocean
·         Preferable knowledge of the dynamics and chemistry of the ocean
·         Preferable experience within the areas of atmospheric modelling, air/sea exchange, surface ocean biogeochemical cycling
·         Very good programming skills (Fortran, Matlab, IDL, Unix/Linux)
·         Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
·         Fluent English

The position will remain open until filled, with a flexible start date and is available for a funding period of 3 years with a possible extension for another year. The salary will be class 13 TVöD of the German salary scale for public employees.
