NERC/EPSRC Next-Generation Unmanned System Science (NexUSS) Centre for Doctoral Training – PhD studentships
The University of East Anglia is currently advertising three PhD studentships eligible for funding from the NeXUSS CDT (http://www.southampton.ac.uk/nexuss/index.page). Successful candidates will benefit from a personalised training programme, combining bespoke specialist training with cohort activities, including the NexUSS “Smart and Autonomous Observation Systems (SAOS) Grand Challenge”, in which will students will work in teams to design and deploy SAOS technologies and apply rigorous data analysis techniques to address a simulated, real-world environmental problem.
The three projects are:
Optimising ocean glider sampling of internal waves and eddies (Primary supervisor Dr Robert Hall, UEA)
Autonomous carbon system observations from gliders (AutoCarb) (Primary supervisor Prof Jan Kaiser, UEA)
A coupled CFD and observational approach to improve measurements of ocean turbulence (Primary supervisor Dr Matthew Palmer, NOC)
