Can you please forward this.
The Coastal Research Group at the ICBM (Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment), Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, offers a
4-year PhD position
within an interdisciplinary consortium of marine physicists, biologists and oceanographic modelers working in the project "Coastal Ocean Darkening" (COD) financed by the Ministry for Science and Culture of Lower Saxony. A short description of the project can be found at:http://www.icbm.de/en/scientific-projects/coastal-ocean-darkening/
In the COD project the Coastal Research Group is responsible for performing numerical simulations in the area of North-West European shelf with a focus on the North Sea, using coupled physical - biogeochemical model with up-to-date parameterization of light absorption. Process studies will estimate the sensitivity of light in the North Sea upon different factors such as circulation, wave-regime, and biological processes. Light availability and its changes both in the coastal and open-ocean waters will also be studied. Hindcast and scenario simulations will be performed to analyze the evolution of light climate in the last 100 years, as well as its future evolution in the next 100 years.
We are looking for a candidate holding a Master (M.Sc.) or diploma degree (academic university degree) in physics, mathematics or physical oceanography. Experience in ocean circulation modelling using state-of-the-art ocean models is mandatory. Additionally, the candidate should have a strong expertise in programming languages, like FORTRAN and MATLAB, Linux operating systems and parallel cluster environments. Appropriate candidates holding a PhD degree will be considered for a PostDoc position
The University of Oldenburg is dedicated to increase the percentage of female employees in the field of science. Therefore, female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. In accordance to § 21 Section 3 NHG, female candidates with equal qualifications will be preferentially considered. People with disabilities will be given preference if equally qualified.
Please send your application including a cover letter, copies of your certificates (including a list of your most relevant publications if you want to be considered for a PostDoc position) and a CV as a single pdf-file not exceeding 10 MByte via e-mail to our team assistant Mrs. Ursel Gerken (firstname.lastname@example.org) and in copy to the principal investigator Prof. Dr. Emil Stanev (email@example.com). All applications must be submitted by May 18th 2016. Our ideal starting date would be August 1st 2016.
