The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and its Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research - Atmospheric Environmental Research (KIT/IMK-IFU), KIT-Campus Alpin in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, invites applications to an open PostDoc position.

 

The positions are within the KIT/IMK-IFU’s group “Transport processes in the Atmospheric Boundary-Layer” and contribute to the BMBF-funded project “Model-based city planning and application in climate change (MOSAIK)”, while the focus of this sub-project in on urban chemistry and air quality. We offer a multi-disciplinary, collaborative research environment with excellent research infrastructure and support, well connected to national and international programmes.

 

Salary and benefits will be according to the Collective Agreements for state employees (TV-L).

Appointment is for a period of three years. The preferred starting date is 1 June 2016.

 

The main goal of this work will be the development and evaluation of an online-coupled chemistry module for a large-eddy urban climate model. Further expected tasks include mentoring of PhD students, publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at international conferences. Professional requirements are a PhD degree (or equivalent) in meteorology, atmospheric science, physics, chemistry, environmental science or engineering, or a related field, basic knowledge in atmospheric chemistry, numerical modelling and proficiency in FORTRAN. An inclination for cross-disciplinary collaboration and proven ability to write scientific publications are expected.
