A graduate research assistantship (masters or doctoral level) is available in the Department of Geography and Environmental Resources at Southern Illinois University beginning fall 2016. The assistantship is part of a project investigating the connection between heat waves and droughts in the United States, and evaluating sub-seasonal to seasonal heat wave prediction capabilities of climate forecast models. The successful application will have a background in climatology or meteorology, an excellent academic record, and strong written and oral communication skills. In addition, programming proficiency in Matlab, Python, R, or a similar program and data processing experience are necessary. The assistantship provides up to 3 years of 9-month appointments with a monthly stipend up to $1396 (masters) or $1566 (doctoral) as well as a tuition waiver.
