Working Group I of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is
filling the position of

Information Technology Officer in the Technical Support Unit (IPCC WGI)

Located at the University of Paris-Saclay (France), next to Institut
Pierre Simon Laplace / Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de
l’Environnement (IPSL/LSCE)

This position is responsible for the Information Technology (IT) aspects
of the IPCC Working Group I (WGI) Technical Support Unit (TSU) during
the scoping, preparation, review and completion of the contribution of
WGI to the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the IPCC. The IT Officer
reports to the Head of the TSU and works closely with the Head of
Operations and Head of Science. This position will also be part of the
IPCC Web Team, and liaise with the IT Officer of the IPCC Secretariat
and the IT Officers of other TSUs (WGII, WGIII). The IT officer will
collaborate closely with IT officers from Institut Pierre Simon Laplace
/ Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement (IPSL/LSCE)
where the WGI data center will be hosted.

This is a fixed term position until December 2022, funded by the French
Government through the University of Paris-Saclay, with an appointment
as soon as possible.

Responsibilities include:

• Design, development and maintenance of WGI website (Drupal) in
coordination with IPCC Secretariat;
• Set-up and maintenance of electronic databases and work platforms,
including cloud-based CDN service (e.g. CloudFlare);
• Maintenance of hosting environment, decentralized web infrastructure
and applications (Linux, PHP, MySQL, Apache, Javascript, Shell language,
network monitoring) with high security level;
• Development of a framework for transparency and traceability of
scientific graphs of WGI reports and atlases, to facilitate the work of
AR6 authors (e.g. standardized reporting of figure recipes, metadata
information, ipython notebooks);
• Maintenance of the data archive, document version control, backup and
security;
• Implementation of an environment allowing efficient and traceable
editing of documents;
• IT guidance and support to the WGI TSU staff;
• IT support for WGI international workshops and meetings, in
cooperation with local organizers;

Requirements:

• Bachelor or higher degree in Information Technology or in Science
with professional IT experience;
• Knowledge of system administration of local networks with the highest
security requirements;
• System knowledge of PC, Macintosh, networks, mail and web servers,
backup systems;
• Knowledge of Linux, PHP, MySQL, Apache, Javascript, Shell language;
• Experience in the treatment of electronic documents and databases;
• Knowledge of software for scientific graphs;
• Excellent written and spoken fluency in English, also at the technical
level;
• Willingness to travel to provide IT support at international meetings;
• Autonomy, flexibility and capacity to respect time constraints;
• High level of motivation and social skills, ability to work in an
international context.
