The Meteorological Institute of the University of Bonn
is seeking a
3 year postdoc (100% E13 TV-L) for the project HD(CP)2 (High Definition Clouds and Precipitation for Climate Prediction), starting April 1, 2016.
Within HD(CP)2, the subproject on ‚Cloud and Convective Organisation’ evaluates the representation of convective organization in high and low-resolution versions of the HD(CP)2 model (ICON-LES and ICON-NWP) using radar observations. Based on indices quantifying organization climatologies will be derived for Germany and the tropical Atlantic ocean from 3D polarimetric radar composites and model simulations. Based on these climatologies the connection between between convective organisation and precipitation efficiency in observations and models will be analyzed and compared.
We offer a highly motivating and interdisciplinary environment, the ability to work independently, and excellent facilities for radar research and numerical simulation studies. University Bonn is an equal opportunities employer. Applications from disabled and female applicants are particularly welcome.
Applicants should have a PhD in geosciences or physics, preferably in meteorology, atmospheric physics, geophysics or hydrology, or written their thesis on a topic related to the planned research. Knowledge in either radar polarimetry and/or atmospheric modelling is a mandatory prerequisite.
1) A cover letter including your research interests and motivation
2) A detailed curriculum vitae
3) Certificates (BSc, MSc, PhD)
Deadline: Open until filled.
