Postdoctoral Researcher in ocean modelling and data assimilation
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a background in ocean modelling and/or data assimilation (or closely related field). The project involves modelling diurnal sea surface temperatures (SST) and developing data assimilation methods for assimilating satellite SST observations. Most current operational data assimilation systems do not assimilate daytime SST primarily due to the inability of ocean models to properly resolve near-surface thermo-dynamic processes. Advancing capability to effectively assimilate satellite observations of SST with proper account of diurnal cycle together with thermo-dynamical coupling with near-surface ocean state is highly relevant to increasing accuracy of ocean analysis and prediction. The project will involve collaboration with Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC), Italy, and Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), Greece. Previous experience with coding, numerical modeling, and handling large data sets is required, as is publishing results in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences. The position will be based at Trinity Western University and/or Simon Fraser University both in Greater Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Please direct applications and enquires to Dr. Sam Pimentel at firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications should include your CV together with contact details of two references and your available start date.
Salary: $45,000 CDN
Duration: Two years with a possible one-year extension dependent on progress and funding.
Start Date: Flexible, but available immediately
