Postdoc on GLOBAL CLIMATE INTERACTIONS at Melbourne University, Australia

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will join the research group on climate variability and climate change at The University of Melbourne led by Professor Ian Simmonds under three-year funding from the Australian Research Council. The project will explore the interactions between the climates in the polar, midlatitude and tropical regions in an epoch of changing sea ice. Under funding provided by the Australian Research Council, the appointee will join an international team of researchers working on related topics. The main focus of the project will be on using statistical analyses, theoretical investigations and numerical model simulations as tools to understand how changes in the Arctic and Antarctic regions influence both midlatitude and tropical climate and weather. It will also explore, in turn, the extent to which observed climate changes in the tropics and midlatitudes impact on the temperature and sea ice in polar regions.

This position is located at the School of Earth Sciences at The University of Melbourne. However there will be considerable exchange with Partner Investigator Dr James Screen and his research group at the University of Exeter, UK.

This is a three-year full time position
