There is a vacancy for a PhD position in Meteorology at the Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen (UiB). The position is for a fixed-term period of 4 years. I would greatly appreciated if you could post this information and/or inform potential candidates at your department about this opportunity.
About the project/work tasks:
The PhD project will focus on air-sea interaction processes in the Gulf Stream and Kuroshio regions, with a particular focus on the mechanisms acting on the temporal and spatial scales from synoptic storms to storm tracks. The strong sea surface temperature gradients along these ocean currents strongly influence the atmosphere, in particular low-level baroclinicity. However, our understanding of the direct and indirect influences of sea surface temperature gradients on the atmosphere remains limited. The candidate will investigate the mechanisms by which oceanic fronts interact with cyclones and storm tracks using idealised simulations, reanalysis data, and fully coupled climate models including novel diagnostic tools.
