2-year post-doc at the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in
Split, Croatia |
Key-words: meteorological tsunamis, warning networks, numerical ocean and atmosphere modelling, climate research
Project led by Jadranka Sepic (IOF Split).
Meteotsunamis are several meters high long-ocean waves generated by small-scale air pressure disturbances. These waves occasionally cause substantial damage to coastal towns at a number of worldwide locations (US; Spain, Japan, Australia, ...). Meteorological tsunamis are especially destructive at the Adriatic Sea.
Main objective of the project is to build a reliable prototype of a meteotsunami warning system based on real-time measurements, operational atmospheric (ALADIN; WRF) and ocean modelling (ROMS; SCHISM) and real time decision-making process, using knowledge acquired from analysis of historical destructive event. Top meteotsunami research scientist from several Croatian and worldwide institutions are involved in the project. Strong international collaboration is expected.
We are looking for a post-doc with a background in one of the following fields: real time research and warning networks, atmospheric sciences (atmospheric gravity waves, atmospheric numerical modelling, climate simulations), ocean sciences (meteo-tsunamis, tsunamis, sea level, ocean numerical models), pattern extractions.
More information can be obtained from Jadranka Sepic (firstname.lastname@example.org).
