Graduate Research Opportunities in Ocean Mixing Graduate Student / Research Assistant School for Marine Science and Technology University of Massachusetts DartmouthThe School for Marine Science and Technology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications from qualified students to our Ph.D. program to work on problems relating to ocean mixing. Specific project areas include state-of-the-art numerical modeling and analysis of internal waves and vortical mode in the context of lateral dispersion and the internal-wave energy cascade in the ocean. Model results will also be compared with data from field studies using dye and drifter release experiments, with observational data sets used to guide the numerical analysis. The ideal candidate will have experience in fluids modeling and/or applied math or physics, and/or an MS in one of these fields. Successful applicants are eligible for a tuition waiver plus annual stipend.
A Bachelors or Masters degree in oceanography, physics, applied mathematics, engineering or related field is required. Applicants should have strong mathematical and computer skills and some background in physical and/or earth sciences. Review of applications is ongoing and will continue until positions are filled. The position is available immediately. Full-time enrollment beginning as early as January 2016, but no later than Fall 2016, is expected. Applications to our graduate program are available from our website: http://www.umassd.edu/smast/application/. For more information, please also visit our website: http://www.smast.umassd.edu . Interested applicants should complete a full application to our graduate program, and send a copy of their statement of interest, current resume, GRE scores, and academic transcripts to:
