Dear Met-Jobs, I have a PDRA post at the University of Edinburgh with a closing date of the 20th October to work on the Newton funded project “Long Term Undulations versus secular change in Chinese Climate (LOTUS-China)” at the University of Edinburgh. This is a joint project involving the Universities of Edinburgh, Reading and Oxford to answer the overarching question “"Why is climate changing in China and what are the implications for China's vulnerability to extremes, e.g. drought?" The Edinburgh PDRA will quantify the contributions that greenhouse gases, aerosols and circulation change have made to changing Chinese temperature extremes, particularly urban events, and precipitation extreme events. They will also carry out research into the possible reasons why models underestimate the observed changes in minimum and maximum temperatures over China and link their results with those of project partners in Reading, Oxford and China. The ideal candidate for this post will have a PhD (or near completion) in Climate science or a closely related area and be enthusiastic about climate research. They will be able to use complex models, compare them with observations and be able to program computers. They should also be strongly numerate, have written peer-reviewed papers and have strong written and oral communication skills. The role is fixed term starting as soon as possible until June 30th 2018. See: https://www.vacancies.ed.ac.uk/pls/corehrrecruit/erq_jobspec_version_4.display_form for more details and to apply.
