Postdoctoral research associate in the National Centre for Earth Observation NCEO at University of Leicester

The extended closing for this post is midnight on 19 October 2015.

At University of Leicester, we have developed a new retrieval of atmospheric concentrations of formaldehyde from observations of the GOME-2 mission on the MetOp. MetOp forms the space segment component of the overall EUMETSAT Polar System with a series of 3 satellites to be flown successively for more than 14 years which will help to develop long time series as needed for climate-relevant studies.

We wish to appoint an excellent postdoctoral researcher to further evolve and extend our satellite retrieval for formaldehyde from the GOME-2 satellite and to carefully validate the dataset against ground-based and airborne data. The formaldehyde datasets will then be used to evaluate biogenic emissions as calculated with state-of-the-art land surface models (MEGAN and JULES) with a focus on the drivers for year-to-year variations. The candidate will be expected to engage with atmospheric modelling groups of the National Centre for Earth Observations (NCEO) at University of Edinburgh and Leeds.

The post is a fixed term contract for one year on Salary Grade 7 (£32,227 to £37,394 per annum).

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Hartmut Boesch on or 0116 252 2273.
