The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Department of Geography
at Humboldt University Berlin invites applications for a scientist (75%
position, temporary for 3 years) from October 1st, 2015. Salary is
according to German state wage agreement for scientific staff (E13 TV-L
HU). After all social security and tax deductions annual net salary
ranges between 20.000 and 24.000 EUR depending on social status. The
working contract can eventually be extended.

The successful applicant’s task is to theoretically and experimentally
further develop the COupled Snow and Ice energy and MAss balance model
(“COSIMA”) and to apply it in scientific and international contexts of
cryospheric sciences. We expect that the candidate aims at scientific
qualification in the named field of science. The position includes a
teaching obligation of 3 hours per week during each winter and summer
term’s lecturing period and further contribution to the overall
assignments of the working group.

Applicants must hold a master degree in Geography or neighboring fields
with core area in either physical geography, environmental sciences,
meteorology, physics, mathematics, computer sciences or similar fields.
Experience with at least one programming language and excellent mastery
of English in both written and oral form are required. Sufficient
knowledge of German language and experience in alpine glaciated
landscapes are advantageous. The position is suitable either for a
post-graduate with the intention of working on a dissertation thesis or
a postdoc aiming at habilitation.
