The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Department of Geography at Humboldt University Berlin invites applications for a scientist (75% position, temporary for 3 years) from October 1st, 2015. Salary is according to German state wage agreement for scientific staff (E13 TV-L HU). After all social security and tax deductions annual net salary ranges between 20.000 and 24.000 EUR depending on social status. The working contract can eventually be extended. The successful applicant’s task is to advance mesoscale modelling and downscaling of atmospheric fields for applications in geography both in urban climates and other complex terrains in scientific and international contexts. We expect that the candidate aims at scientific qualification in the named field of science. The position includes a teaching obligation of 3 hours per week during each winter and summer term’s lecturing period and further contribution to the overall assignments of the working group. Applicants must hold a master degree in Geography or neighboring fields with core area in either physical geography, computer sciences, meteorology, physics, mathematics, environmental sciences or similar fields. Experience with programming languages and excellent mastery of English in both written and oral form are a prerequisite. Sufficient knowledge of German language and experience in experimental work in urban - or topo climatology are advantageous. The position is suitable either for a post-graduate with the intention of working on a dissertation thesis or a postdoc aiming at habilitation. Closing date for applications is September 15th, 2015.
