Postdoctoral Position in Atmospheric Dynamics, Indiana University

The Atmospheric Group in the Department of Geological Sciences, Indiana
University is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant. Research is aimed
at understanding the dynamics of hurricanes and conducting numerical
simulations of hurricane-like vortices. The successful candidate is expected to
possess mathematical skill in compressible fluid and nonlinear dynamical
systems. Candidates must have a PhD in applied mathematics, computer sciences,
physics, or atmospheric sciences. Knowledge and/or experience with numerical
modeling is desirable. Indiana University runs a state-of-the-art computing
center with a supercomputer Big Red II that possesses peak performance at the
PetaFlops level as well as advanced data storage archive, providing a top-tier
center for Earth system modeling and data analysis. As such, the candidate will
have opportunities to explore and conduct numerical experiments, using such a
superb HPC infrastructure. The candidate should be eager to communicate results
at scientific meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals. S/he should be
also motivated, and be prepared to interact with atmospheric scientists and
geophysicists.
The initial appointment for the position is 1 year, and can be extended to the
second year upon successful performance and availability of funding. Salary
commensurate with experiences. The candidate will be jointly supervised by
Prof. Chanh Kieu (Department of Geological Sciences) and Prof. Shouhong Wang
(Department of Mathematics). Applications should include a one-page statement
of research interests, a CV, and the names/contact information for three
references. For more information, please contact Chanh Kieu
(ckieu@indiana.edu). Indiana University is an equal employment and affirmative
action employer and a provider of ADA services.
