The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for an Associate Research Scientist position in the Climate Modeling and Diagnostics research group of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Columbia University in Palisades, NY. The successful candidate will conduct research in Arctic sea ice prediction on both seasonal and intraseasonal time scales, as well as low-dimensional stochastic-dynamic model predictions of low-frequency atmospheric variability in the midlatitudes.
Candidates should have completed their PhD and at least two years of postdoctoral research experience by May 2015, in atmospheric science or a related field. Experience constructing, executing, and analyzing both the Markovian and non-Markovian stochastic forecast models and familiarity with sea ice and atmospheric data is required. Prior experience with MatLab and Fortran programming is also necessary. Candidates are expected to have a record of publications in scientific literature.
Appointment will be for 1-year initially, with continuation contingent upon progress and funding.
