The Institute of Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences (formerly Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics) Dynamic Meteorology group, at the University of Innsbruck seeks a University Assistant / Postdoc Boundary Layer Dynamics The successful candidate will be expected to actively contribute to current and future research projects by leading experimental activities as well as theoretical/conceptual analysis in the area of
boundary layer dynamics in complex terrain. In coordination with the group head (Mathias Rotach), s/he will also be encouraged to develop her/his own research activities within the general field of activities of the group. The main focus of the position
will be the continuation of a boundary layer research infrastructure in complex terrain (so-called i-Box), further development of post-processing approaches and tools and further progress in our understanding of turbulent exchange processes in complex terrain.
Regular duties will include teaching at undergraduate (B.Sc.) and/or graduate (M.Sc.) levels as well as research training for PhD students in the group. In certain job specification systems the job description corresponds to an assistant professor level without
tenure track. Candidates with strong background in the experimental exploration of boundary layer processes are especially encouraged to apply. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in meteorology, atmospheric science or a related field; experience in experimental methods for boundary layer meteorology advantageous; knowledge and experience in
scientific programming, background in atmospheric processes in complex terrain, experience in project management and field activities; experience and/or interest in university level teaching; strong verbal and written communication skills, and good knowledge
of the English language are required (knowledge of German is welcome but not required). Independence, strong problem-solving skills, and an ability to work efficiently as part of a team are essential. SALARY: Salary is determined by the salary system of the University of Innsbruck and can be commensurate with professional qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. In addition the rules of the
Austrian employment law apply. LENGTH OF CONTRACT: The position is offered for 4 years, starting not before September 15 2015.
