Master Thesis – Meteorology/Oceanography
Masterstudent, department CSK – starting 01 July 2015 for one year

Topic: Improve the understanding of tropical cyclones (TC) in the Tropical Atlantic using global and regional climate simulations. The focus of the study will be on the simulated climatology of tropical cyclones (TC) by deriving atmospheric indices such as genesis potential index (GPI), African Easterly Wave (AEW), African Easterly Jet (AEJ), TC generation and tracks density.
Other topics can be included such as:

1) The influence of model resolution and atmosphere-ocean coupling on TCs generation and propagation
2) The importance of regional downscaling of global AOGCM for decadal TC prediction.

Knowledge in working with climate datasets, Linux Operating System, FORTRAN programming, and CDOs are preferred.

Informal enquiries can be directed to Dr. Armelle Remedio Reca ( or Dr. Andreas Hänsler (
