Rossby Waves in Climate Models

Fixed term 2 year position

The successful applicant will undertake research on the sources and life cycle of Rossby waves in the Southern Hemisphere and their role in extratropical cyclogenesis, blocking and the low-frequency variability, among other things.  The part played by convection and other diabatic processes in the generation and amplification of the waves will be examined, as will the back-reaction of the waves on convection.  The project will involve the use of the global reanalyses and Australia's national climate model, the Australian Community Climate and Earth System Simulator (ACCESS).
