MOLTEK has been serving the space and aerospace industries since 1995,
providing international consultancy services for a wide variety of clients from
private and public corporations to national and international authorities and
agencies.
We are looking to further enhance our team by
Senior Ocean Colour Scientist Support
You will be based initially for 2 years at our client’s headquarters in
Darmstadt, Germany. Extension of a further 2 years may be possible. In this
large European Agency you will find an excellent and modern working environment
with challenging tasks and responsibilities.
Your Tasks Include:
The activities for this consultancy will include scientific and engineering
aspects related to the scientific support to both Sentinel-3 OLCI Level-l TOA
Radiance products and Level-2 Ocean Colour products. This will include
contributions to the scientific development, maintenance, Level-l and Level-2
processors, instrument calibration, algorithm and product validation,
verification, routine monitoring and offline analysis of Level-l and Level-2
OLCI marine data products in support of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 marine
mission.

The requested support is for the Sentinel-3 OLCI Ocean Colour product chains;
nevertheless, assistance with other marine activities may be required. EUMETSAT
disseminates Ocean Colour Third Party Data to Copernicus Marine Services and is
in the process of developing OC-related products from its own mandatory
missions. The OLCI CalNal activities will require inter-comparisons with Third
Party Ocean Colour data sets.

The tasks and responsibilities will include:
• Support to validation and verification of Level-2 Ocean Colour
algorithms and Level-2 and Level-3 products;
• Support to OLCI instrument characterization and calibration and to
verification of Level-1 products;
• Support to the scientific and engineering development of calibration
and validation methods as well as implementation of new tools and utilisation
of existing tools;
• Support to the development of new tools for product processing
monitoring and utilisation of existing tools;
• Investigation of anomalies and issues related to Level 1 and Level 2
product quality;
• Support to the set-up and operation of product quality monitoring and
reporting tools;
• Contribution to the analysis, assessment and maintenance of L1/L2 Ocean
Colour satellite data processors and algorithms;
• Contribution to scientific development of algorithms to support Cal/Val
activities;
• Contribution to the execution of scientific support studies.

The consultant will work in a matrix structure providing cross-divisional
support to the Copernicus Sentinel-3 Operations Team and will be a member of
the oceanography team of experts and scientists of the RSP/MA-Section of the
TSS Department.
The support will involve cross-divisional interactions and interface with
experts in various disciplines (system engineering, instruments, operations,
science), as well as Cal/Val experts.

• Hands-on experience with the calibration and the validation of remote
sensing products;
• Hands on experience with the development of calibration and product
validation methods and tools;
•       Familiarity with the precursor to the Sentinel-3 Ocean Colour mission;
•       Experience with operational satellite data processing;
• Mandatory 5 years of scientific programming skills (C++, IDL/PV-WAVE
and ENVI or equivalent);
•       Skills in writing technical and scientific documents;
