Forwarded from CLIMLIST... The Oregon Climate Change Research Institute is offering a summer internship at Oregon State University in Corvallis, as part of the REACCH project. Description: Since 2000, volunteers have provided personal computing time in support of an innovative research effort called climateprediction.net, generating "superensembles" - that is, tens or hundreds of thousands of simulations. One climatepredition.net project, led by OCCRI, is generating a superensemble of regional climate modeling for the western US. The student will develop innovative ways to display these data (maps, plots, story lines) in ways that may be useful to decision-makers in the inland Northwest. Skills: atmospheric science, statistics, communication, policy. Should be a junior or senior interested in graduate school. Preferred: some exposure to a programming language or mapping software (R, IDL, Matlab, Python, ArcGIS) and a keen interest in translating science for decision makers.
